We lost our adored wife and mother to pancreatic cancer August 2, 2016, at HopeWest Hospice and Care Center. She was born Mary Alice Lucas to Elwyn and Margaret Lucas in the tiny riverside town of Tolu, Kentucky. At an early age she knew she wanted to be a school teacher, and that’s what she became. She loved to teach, and was recognized as outstanding in her profession. Many young lives benefitted from her dedication.
She also was a conservationist, outdoors enthusiast, music lover and feminist. She was literate and literary; books were constant companions.
She enjoyed playing games, especially Rummy-cube with her friends. She considered herself an expert at finding the perfect rock on which to sit and read while her husband fished streams and lakes. She became our wildflower identifier. Her picnic lunches graced many of our outdoor expeditions. We called her the Picnic Lady.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Trammell, daughters Melissa Trammell and Laura Wrzeski, grandchildren Adam and Elise Wrzeski, great-grandchildren Mia Mae, Natalie Noel, and Archer Adam, and her brother John Elwyn Lucas. Her family was a source of great joy.
Memorial Services will be at Martin Mortuary, Grand Junction, Colorado August 20 at 11:00 A.M.
Instead of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra (414 Main Street, Grand Junction 81501), Murray State University (Murray, Kentucky, MSU Foundation, 42071), or HopeWest Hospice and Care Center (3090 North 12th St, #B, Grand Junction, CO 81506).
