Micah was born on March 30, 2004, in Kailua, Hawaii where he lived his first six years. He enjoyed time at the beach with family and friends, boogie boarding, hiking, fruit picking, and especially swimming. Micah had been home schooled with his sister and was in the fourth grade. He loved Jesus, his family, friends, Little League baseball, shooting baskets, driving remote control cars, fishing, Legos, his chickens, his cat Tiger and dog Shadow. He also loved running around outside and riding anything that would go fast. Micah was always coming up with creative and new ways to build or do things.
Micah was a vibrant, healthy boy until early this year when he was diagnosed with a rare brainstem cancer (DIPG) that is nearly always fatal. We saw miracle after miracle in his life as he fought to survive through multiple close calls with death during his 10 weeks of radiation. He went on to embrace life with renewed passion and physical strength. He was able to enjoy many, plus more, of his favorite things including travel to new and familiar places during the spring and summer. We will always cherish the memories of how brave and courageous he was through-out his illness. Over the last six weeks of his life, he progressed from running and playing to complete paralysis. He found ways to adapt to this rapid loss of function and mobility in his own quiet way.
Though his life was short, it was full in so many ways. Our lives were made so much brighter for having known and loved him. We will always carry memories of Micah in our hearts, and look forward to our reunion in heaven one day.
We were all blessed by the generosity of family, friends, and multiple businesses near and far, as well as perfect strangers who helped make Micah's life full of rich experiences and love.
A celebration of life service will be held October 11, 2014 at Canyon View Vineyards Chapel at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Micah Montag Memorial Fund at Coloramo Federal Credit Union. This fund will be used to bring a spark of joy to other kids who face similar challenges.
