July 15, 1932-April 27, 2022
Norma “Eileen” (Niehues) Giles, daughter of Herbert Niehues and Gladys (Dunithan) Niehues, was born on July 15, 1932 in Hydro, Oklahoma and passed away peacefully at home in Loma, CO, April 27, 2022 at the age of 89. As a child, Eileen had a love for animals and playing outdoors on her Dad’s farm especially in the creek bottoms with her cats. Eileen also loved basketball. As a sophomore, her basketball team won the 1948 Oklahoma State Championship. Her basketball career was short-lived because after this achievement, her family moved to Fruita, CO. where there was NO Girls Basketball. There she attended and graduated from Fruita Union High School in 1950. A few months later, she and her friends attended a dance in Mack where she met the love of her life, Victor Giles.
They married November 23, 1951. Eileen was always into photography, spending countless hours photographing their livestock, wildflowers, and mountain scenery. She was a lifetime recipe collector, and an amazing cook. She found great enjoyment creating Beautiful Wedding and Birthday Cakes for family and friends. Eileen loved being a hostess to everyone! She loved to travel and went to many exciting places. She always had an optimistic personality and a love for life. But most precious and treasured to her heart were Children. She would light up when being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren spoiling them with cookies. She was an amazing Mom and Grandmother. Eileen is survived by 3 children, Glenn (Linda) of Grand Junction, Vicki (Joe) of Loma, and Alan (Beckie) of Loma, 9 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her older sister Loretta Parks, 96, of Oklahoma and sister-in-law “Aunt Sis” (Ruth Bond) of Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband Victor Giles, her brother Eldon Niehues, and her son Dale Giles.
Viewing will be Thursday, May 5th at 11 am followed by funeral service at 12 Noon at Martin Mortuary. Interment will be at Grand Junction Memorial Gardens at 2 pm. Potluck Reception to follow at 4pm at AP Ranch in Loma.
