Betty Graves went to Heaven on Friday April 4th, after a brief illness. She was at HopeWest Care Center.
Betty was born in Pittsburg, CA to James and Ora Carter. She was raised in Fulton, Kentucky and went to Murray State College in Kentucky, where she majored in English.
In 1948, she traveled to California where she met and married George W. Sutcliffe. They lived there until his death in 1969. They had two children, Shelley and Charlie.
On October 10, 1970, she married W.C. ""Bill"" Graves. After a couple years, they relocated to Palisade, CO where they raised their family.
Betty had a passion for reading and studying her Bible. She particiapted in several Bible study groups. She also enjoyed being outdoors, especially in the spring where she watched the yellow daffodils bloom, and listened to the birds sing. Betty and Bill both enjoyed their time together fishing and hunting.
Besides taking care of her family, Betty was a part-time librarian, and was also a volunteer at The Pregnancy Center.
In 2005, Betty and Bill retired in Manila, UT near Flaming Gorge. They enjoyed fishing, and traveling especially in the Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore area. They returned to Grand Junction in 2012.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; a brother, James Carter in Temple Terrace, FL; daughter, Shelley (Darrel) Friesen of Grand Junction; son, Charles (Kay) Sutcliffe of Loveland, CO, and six grandchildren, Andrew, James, Leslie, Grace, John Mark and Joy Lynn.
A memorial service will be held at River of Life Church on Thursday April 10, at 11:00 a.m.
