

Raymond Earl Grant (Ray) was born in Grand Junction, Colorado on January 6, 1935 to parents Aloha Mae (Bogue) Grant and Dale Franklin Grant. He died at his home in Fruita, Colorado on November 18, 2025.
Ray graduated from Basalt High School. He enjoyed sports: basketball, football, baseball, fishing, hunting, skiing, hiking and camping. He earned an Engineer of Geology degree from Colorado School of Mines, and later in life a Masters of Engineering Administration degree at the University of Utah.
Through ROTC at the School of Mines, Ray served in the US Army Corps of Engineers. While stationed at Fort Hood he met and married Hazel Bass in Killeen, Texas. They had three wonderful children Bruce, Sharon, and Bryan. Hazel passed away in 1992. Following Hazel’s passing, Ray spent a great deal of time with his family, caring for his elderly mother Aloha and enjoying his grandsons Jake and Jesse. Ray also spent a lot of time enjoying the mountains of Colorado at their cabin in Alma.
Ray started out his working career as an exploration geologist, finding iron ore, lead and copper deposits. He was promoted to engineering positions of developing mines as well as finding deposits of molybdenum, copper, silver, and gold. He worked with teams in developing many large successful mining operations which added jobs to the communities and resources to the states and nation. Later he moved into mine finance as Vice President of Engineering. In his new role, Ray and his team evaluated technical, geological, and economic data used to develop many additional mining ventures all over the world. Ray retired in 1995.
On September 16, 2006, Ray married Joyce Dillingham in Grand Junction. Upon marrying Joyce he was blessed with two additional children, Dawn & Clint. Ray and “Joyous” as he loved to call her, were married for 19 years before his passing. Ray and Joyce were blessed with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Ray was a man of strong faith. He taught us all the importance of family, hard work and doing the right thing. Ray was a true role model to anyone who knew him. Ray will forever be in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Monument View Bible Church in Fruita, Colorado.
