No real reason for anyone in the family to know or remember me, however, for a short while in the early 1960's we both lived in the trailer park at 830 Independent across from West Lake in Grand Junction.  I remember ""Bobby"" who lived a few trailers down from mine.  Because there were many young families in the neighborhood, some with many kids, he and I bonded a little by virtue of the fact we all loved baseball.  We all gathered in the vacant lot across the driveway to play baseball or five dollar or five step and often it went into the evening hours and ended up as ""hide and go seek"".  My memory was not a delightful one, but was significant in my life.  One cold, wintry Sunday morning I was walking home from church and saw someone out on the ice of West Lake.  They fell through the thin ice not too far from the shore, it turned out to be ""Bobby"".  it was not very deep and he came up to his knees in the water, maybe mid thigh, but understandably he was frightened.  I am afraid what I felt was pure Adrenaline but I remember trying to coax him to move toward shore.  He didn't want to move, so I thought it best to go get him.  He grabbed my hand firmly and then ""crawled"" up my arm until he had ahold of my neck.  We trudged out of the lake, climbed up the bank and looked a wet, muddy mess.  I remember it was curiously not terribly cold, again, probably the adrenaline.  We walked back home and I remember getting to his house, knocking on the door and his mom met us.  I don't remember her response, but that's likely because we were both a little sheepish and afraid of being in trouble.  Bobby and the family moved away sometime after that.  
     In later years, I became a volunteer with Special Olympics here in the Grand Junction area but I never did seem to bump into Bobby or see his name on a competition sheet. The notice in the paper mentioned contributions to Special Olympics and I am sad I never did make that connection.  I wish the family peace and comfort as you remember the love and devotion between you all, and the lasting importance of his life.
