Ruby Holloway
March 12, 1926 - October 17, 2015
Ruby Holloway passed away peacefully on October 17, 2015. Her last days were spent surrounded by family and friends, hearing wonderful memories being shared.
Ruby was born to Marshall and Allie Barteau in Sag Harbor, New York on March 12, 1926. She spoke fondly of the days of her childhood as she grew up by the farms and beaches in East Hampton. Her family moved to Pennsylvania when she was in elementary school and in sixth grade she met the man who would be her future husband, Mark Holloway.
When Mark graduated from college, they started their lives together and set out for Colorado in the early 1950s. They quickly made many steadfast and lifelong friends. Ruby gave birth to a daughter, Wendy Sue, and then a son, Larry Mark, and was a patient, devoted mother and a supportive wife. Ruby and her husband both played musical instruments and instilled that love in their children. Ruby was an animal lover and her home was never without some sort of pet. She also loved gardening, the outdoors, and camping. In addition to being a mother, Ruby worked alongside Mark doing clerical duties and working as a ""road runner"" in his accounting firm, Management Services. Her quick smile and outgoing personality helped her to forge friendships all over the community. Ruby kept close track of the important milestones in people's lives and enjoyed writing letters and cards to let others know she was thinking of them. Her thoughtfulness touched many lives.
At the core of Ruby's life was her love of the Lord. She was a shining example of faith in action. Ruby was always available to help someone in need and had friends of all ages and from all walks of life. She was always ready to offer a kind word or a compassionate ear to those in need. Being part of a faith community was essential to Ruby, and she and Mark were among the first members of Heritage Church.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Mark. She is survived by her daughter, Sue (Randy) Cass and her son, Larry (Lori) Holloway of Grand Junction; her granddaughters, Stacy Taylor, Aubrey Holloway, Sarah Cass, and Emily (Paul) Zirges.
A celebration of Ruby's life will be held at Heritage Church on Saturday, October 24 at 10:00 a.m.
If desired, memorial contributions can be made in Ruby's name to HopeWest or Heritage Church.
