
Viola Martha Moreno, age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 3, 2025. She was born on April 1, 1938, in Silt, Colorado, to Benardo and Julia Montano. She grew up in Silt and eventually relocated to Grand Junction, Colorado, with her family in 1945. She married the love of her life, Ramon Moreno, on March 22, 1981, and they were married for 37 years before his passing in 2018. Viola became a mother from a previous marriage, giving birth to her only child, Debbie Vigil. She was a self-employed housekeeper for several decades and was thoroughly adored by her clients. In her spare time, Viola enjoyed gardening and tending to her impressive display of multiple varieties of flowers. Her passion for gardening was unmatched, and it became a staple of her life. She also enjoyed birds, particularly hummingbirds, which were her favorite. She was a wonderful cook and was especially known for her famous pork green chili and stuffed sopapillas. Viola loved crafting and sewing, leaving her unique craftsmanship in each special item she created. She was devout in her faith and openly prayed for her loved ones and anyone needing extra prayers. The greatest joy in her life was being a grandmother to her three granddaughters and great-granddaughter, Ashley, Gabrielle, Danielle, and Oaklee Funke. Viola lived life to the fullest. She emitted her happiness, generosity, compassion, and love to everyone she encountered in her life. People instantly gravitated to her charming and charismatic personality, and she will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.
Viola is preceded in death by both her parents, Benardo and Julia Montano, her brothers, Ben, Henry, Marcelino, Mike, Jimmy, and Johnny Montano, and her husband, Ramon Moreno. She is survived by her daughter Debbie, her granddaughters, Ashley, Gabrielle, and Danielle, her great-granddaughter, Oaklee, her brother Frank, her sisters Lorinda and Rosie, and many nieces and nephews.
Family, friends, and all others whose lives Viola touched are invited to attend her funeral service at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary, 2515 Patterson Rd, Grand Junction, CO 81505, at 1 PM on Saturday, December 13, 2025, to celebrate the life of such an extraordinary woman.
