Donnie was raised in Grand Prairie, Texas and attended the Dalworth Church of Christ growing up. He attended Austin Elementary, Lee Junior High and graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1966. He was all boy, was a great athlete, and loved to play sports, especially football. While playing a football game in high school, he lost one of his contacts. They stopped the game to look for it. They found it! He also played little league for the Rotary Club.
Donnie worked for several phone companies, and finally retired from AT&T. In his retirement, he raised cows at the farm in Elm Mott, Texas. When he could no longer work the farm, he couldn't bear to sell the cows, because he considered them his pets He loved his cows so much that it would break his heart when one would die. He loved all animals very much. As a young boy, while walking to the corner store, he saw his dog "Boston Blackie" run over by a car. He ran home to tell his mom to call the ambulance. He loved the lake place that his daddy and mother owned and loved to fish. Donnie served in the National Guard for 6 years.
Beneath his gruff exterior, Donnie had a heart of gold. He was a very sensitive, caring person. He was very generous and always ready to help his family. He was a wonderful caregiver to his wife, Dee. He was the type of brother who never wanted to burden anyone. He loved his mom and took care of her and always worried about her. He never had children and was always glad to see his great grand nieces during the holidays and spoiled them with gifts.
We know there will be great joy when he is reunited with his daddy "Hoot", whom he adored. He is gone but will never be forgotten.
