passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010, after a brief illness.
Graveside service: 11:30 a.m. Friday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bean-Massey-Burge.
George was born in Clarksdale, Miss., on Dec. 15, 1928, and was a longtime resident of Grand Prairie. He served in the Korean War as a fighter pilot in the Air Force, retired as a lieutenant colonel from the Air National Guard. George graduated from the University of Texas with a BS in aeronautical engineering. He was the student manager of the Longhorn baseball team while attending UT, and was an avid supporter of both UT baseball and football teams ever since. He spent a majority of his business career in banking and as an accountant. George was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Episcopal Church. Favorite activities included square dancing with his wife, Nita aviation, meteorology and travel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. and Gladys Swaim Patterson, and wife, Juanita Marie Patterson.
Survivors: Sister, Loyce Thompson of Prescott; nieces, Carolyn Mainguene of Temecula, Calif., and Kathryn Alyson of Sparks, Nev.; stepsons, Raymond Sirkel and wife, Cindy, Scott Sirkel and Gary Sirkel and wife, Sandy; grandchildren, Ashley, Stephanie, Geoffrey, Caitlin, Savannah, Sam and Kalli Sirkel; and great-grandchild, Mallory Sirkel.
