early age. Services are scheduled for 11:30 AM on Friday, April 26, 2019, under the direction of
Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home of Grand Prairie.
Mr. Gordon was born on February 14, 1931, in Cartersville, GA to Jack Matthew Gordon and
Jessie Lois (Carson) Gordon. He served in the United States Army from 1951-1955 and then in
the U.S. Air Force from 1956-1980. During his time in the Air Force, he served his country as a
B52 Bomber Crewman, and as a Social Actions Equal Opportunity Superintendent. He retired
as Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force after achieving two Combat Air Force Medals during
Vietnam. He later went into Federal Civil Service and worked as a U S Postal employee, and
later as a Department of Defense Contract Negotiator, eventually giving a total of over 53 years of his
life to government service. Mr. Gordon believed in educating oneself, therefore he has an
earned his MBA.
Mr. Gordon enjoyed his strong relationship with Christ, reading the Bible and teaching the Word
of God in a manner easy to understand. His passion was teaching men to be an effective priest of their household with Christ as the head, to obtain education, and strive for excellence in all things. He provided biblical counsel and the “covering” for single women closest to him in his family, at work, and in church. He was a life coach. Through his many years of illness, he never failed to praise God in the midst of the storms and attend to the needs of others. James was truly a servant of the Lord. Achieving flying status in the Air Force and CMSgt. were his proudest career achievements. Mr. Gordon’s pastimes were traveling, reading, playing handball, dominoes, and writing proses and poems.
He is preceded in death by Geraldine Toler Gordon, of San Antonio, his wife of 37 years;
siblings-Fred Gordon, Lois Smith and Stanley Whiteside. Geraldine brought four children into the
marriage and the couple had one child together, a daughter; Jamie Lei Gordon.
James is survived by Imogene Jimerson Gordon of Arlington, wife of 11 years; and only
surviving sibling, Bonnie Williams. He is also survived by children, Paul Gordon; Deborah King; Denise Johnson (Zachary, Sr. ); Alexander Smith; Anthony Smith (Dolores); Darlene Smith-Brewer (Jimmie); and Jamie Gordon (Johnny); stepchildren: Lisa Brown (Calvin); Tina Jimerson; and Herschel Scott Jimerson (Amy); and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. April 25 at the funeral home.
If you desire, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or
Alzheimer’s Foundation.
