She put up a courageous fight suffering from many illnesses and kept fighting until God called her home.
Julia was born to Clara and Arthur Smearman of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. After graduating from high school, she received training as a stenographer. She also had beautiful handwriting. She worked as a secretary for the President of Firestone Tire and Rubber in Akron, Ohio. She also worked as a model. Her only sibling, Daniel Smearman, passed away in 1994.
In 1950, Julia met a friend of her brother, Francis Fosdick, an Air Force cadet whom she married six months later. He became a pilot for American Airlines and Julia stayed home to raise their four children, Karen Ann, Marcia Lyn, Jay Francis, and Dawn Marie. She was a devoted mother and wife. She had a flair for fashion and traveled the world in style. She loved music, the holidays and was a wonderful baker. There were always fresh baked goodies awaiting her children after school.
After she had raised her family, she went back to work as a secretary for a judge in Ft. Worth. In 1983, Julia married Freddie Calhoun. They spent many happy years together.
Julia, or more affectionately “Julie”, is survived by her three children, 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren: daughter Karen Perez and her husband Vic, their children Father Victor Perez, Nic Perez and his wife Jill, Caroline Vyvial and her husband Adam, daughter Marcia Anderson and her sons Hunter and Max.
