With a heart as big as Texas and a love that knew no bounds, Joan Allen, affectionately known as Mamma Joan, passed away peacefully at home in Grand Prairie, Texas, on February 1, 2025, at the age of 61.
Joan was the kind of person who made everyone feel like family. Her warmth, wisdom, and love filled every room she entered. She lived for the people she loved and found her greatest joy in the simple moments of Sunday lunch, front porch talks, and cheering on her grandkids from the sidelines.
On August 8, 1981, she married her best friend, Ricky Allen, and together they built a life full of love, laughter, and just the right amount of chaos. She spent 25 years working at Fast-Trak Construction, where she was more than just a coworker, she was a mentor, a friend, and sometimes a second mom to those who needed one.
But if you knew Joan, you knew her real pride and joy was her family. She was the heartbeat of the Allen crew, the one who kept everyone in line but loved them fiercely. She is survived by her husband, Ricky; Sister, Darla; her children, Justin, Jennifer, Zachary, Megan Jolene, and Dani; her daughters-in-law, Jessie and Randi; her son-in-law, Kyle; and her greatest treasures, her grandkids, Cooper, Jaycee, Scout, Rookie, Wilder, Jett, and Livv. She also leaves behind her mother-in-law, Rosie Allen, who held a special place in her heart.
Mamma Joan's love was loud, her hugs were tight, and her advice was always honest (whether you were ready for it or not). She leaves behind a family who will miss her beyond words but will carry her spirit in every gathering, every laugh, and every "I love you" spoken just a little louder than necessary, just like she always did.
The family welcomes stories, memories, and messages from those who loved Joan. In lieu of flowers, they ask that you honor her by hugging your people a little tighter, making time for those who matter, and never leaving a conversation without saying "I love you."
A visitation for Joan will be held Monday, February 10, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grand Prairie Funeral Home, in the chapel located at 733 Dalworth Street, Grand Prairie, TX 75050. A funeral service will take place Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at 10:30 AM, 733 Dalworth Street, Grand Prairie, TX 75050. A burial will follow Tuesday at 2:30 PM at Cottonwood Cemetery, 12570 County Road 2804, Eustace, TX 75124.
