Vern was born December 28, 1937 in Topeka, Kansas to Joseph and Josephine Disney.
After a brief stint in the U.S. Army, Vern made his way to Colorado where he worked on a cattle ranch for a while. It was while living near Englewood, Colorado he found the love of his life, Debra Jansson in January 1972. They were joined in marriage on July 2, 1972 with Didget by their side.
Vern, Debra and Didget moved from Colorado to Grand Prairie in 1973. He worked for West Point-Pepperell for several years. After deciding retirement wasn’t for him, he worked as an armed guard at Lone Star Park and then as a guard for the UT Southwest Police Department.
Vern enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, tinkering with cars, spending time in the country and traveling with his wife in their RV. Family was the most important thing to Vern and was always there when family was in need.
He leaves behind his wife, Debra Disney of Grand Prairie; and daughter, Didget Powell and her husband, Kenneth of Scurry.
Vern is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Sarah and Francis Baker of Buena Vista, CO; brother and sister-in-law, Lenard and Sue Disney of Indianapolis, IN. He also leaves behind sisters-in-law, Drusilla VanBlaricom of Waxahachie, Diana Tatum of Grand Prairie, and Dorrita Simmons of Anna; as well as several nieces and nephews, many of which he considered his own children.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Josephine Disney; sisters, Fay Dreasher and Florence Ferry; and brothers, Norman Disney and Ralph Disney.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at the Dallas VA Hospice for the loving care and kindness they showed for him and his family.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Grand Prairie Funeral Home, 733 Dalworth Street, Grand Prairie, TX 75050.
