

Manuel was born in Big Spring, Texas on September 19, 1947. After graduating from High School, he enlisted with the US Army and served for 3 years in Germany & Korea. Upon his return, he met the love of his life Alma Rosa Vargas who he loved and cherished for 50 years. He was employed with the Fina Oil Refinery in Big Spring for 5 years before moving to Dallas, Texas in 1975 to raise their family and further their education and careers. Manuel became employed by Xerox Corporation and retired after 18 years. Upon retirement he started his own business, Metro Express Delivery Service where he became known as “The Metro Man.”
Manuel truly loved spending time with his family and friends. His family meant the world to him, something he always shared and made understood. He was unendingly proud of his children, grandchildren, and his wife.
Manuel had a passion for music and sports. Growing up he was a drummer for The Continentals and upon his return from the Army he joined the Taste of Latin, both local bands in Big Spring, TX. He spent hours making music with his children whether it was on the piano, bongos, or good old fashioned spoons. Sports followed the love for music. If you didn’t know that Manuel was THE #1 Dallas Cowboy fan, you didn’t know him at all!
Manuel was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and kind and compassionate spirit. Manuel was very welcoming and made everyone feel like family because his love and hospitality had no limit. He always brightened up the mood in any situation even in his last days. Manuel was loving, comical, stylish, and charming. A true gentleman.
Manuel was preceded in death by his parents Jose H. and Juanita Chavez Lopez as well as his four siblings Erlinda Fierro, Luz Alleman, Jose "Cheke"Lopez, and Josie Hernandez.
He is survived and is deeply missed by his wife Alma Lopez, three daughters Marisol Lopez, Lourdes Estrada (Michael), Elsa Aguillon (David), one son Manuel Lopez, ten grandchildren Ray DeLeon, Christian Ramirez, Jordyn Perez, Catalina Eguia, Zander Eguia, Kennedy Carroll, Diego Eguia, Victoria Estrada, Jacob Escobedo and Nathaniel Aguillon. He also had four great grandchildren, Dallas DeLeon, Adrian Garza, Nemo Puurunen & Bella Puurunen and five siblings Marcos Lopez (Dora), Beatrice Rodriguez, Ramon Lopez, Amparo Tijernia, Albert Lopez (Carrie) and many other family and friends.
