Marsha was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nana. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She didn’t know a stranger and made friends everywhere she went. Family and friends know her as a thoughtful soul, always sending cards and gifts or sharing a phone call to chat and check-in. Marsha spent much of her memorable life helping others as a radiological technician at Parkland Hospital and as a paraprofessional in the Grand Prairie school district. She loved and treated her patients and students as if they were family. Marsha was an active member in the Indian Hills Baptist Church. She was an avid animal lover and was often adding to her family of pets. She was a die-hard Cowboys fan and could often be found cheering (or cursing) them on, every Sunday with a beer in her hand.
Marsha was predeceased by her father, Leonard Newberry. She is survived by her mother, Shirley Newberry; her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Jody Pecena; her daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Nik Svihlik; her beloved granddaughters, Stellamae and Nikola; her former spouse, Larry Pecena; her sister, Debbie Austin; her brother and sister-in-law, Justin and Natalie Newberry; and her many nephews and nieces. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of Marsha’s favorite charities including: the ASPCA, St. Jude’s and Prairie Paws Adoption Center in Grand Prairie, TX.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.grandprairiefh.com for the PECENA family.
