

Richard Wayne Thomas, a dedicated patriot and decorated Vietnam veteran, age 81 passed away peacefully at home in January 12, 2025. Born on June 22, 1943, in DeLeon, Texas, to Dalton Edward Thomas and Clara Christina Thomas, Richard's life was a testament to his unwavering commitment to his country and his deep-rooted values of honor, bravery, and service.
Richard is survived by his loving family, including his children Helga Romero, Dalton Thomas II, and Tabitha "Michelle" Stewart; his 11 grandchildren Adrian Thomas, Ti'Anna Green, Jayden Thomas, Simon "Lil Man" Solis, Giovanni Solis, Dominic Romero, Canyon Thomas, Richard Thomas II, James "Scottie" Thomas, KatieLee Noseworthy, and Nicholas Thomas; his 10 great-grandchildren and his brother William "Bill" Thomas who will forever cherish his memory and the legacy of service and sacrifice he leaves behind. He was preceded in death by his father Dalton E. Thomas, his mother Clara Christina Howe, his brother Dalton Lynn Thomas and his stepfather Ray Howe.
Richard enlisted in the United States Navy in 1960, where he quickly distinguished himself as a sailor of exceptional skill and dedication. His journey continued in the United States Air Force, where he found his true calling and served with distinction until his retirement in 1982. Throughout his service, Richard's leadership and courage shone brightly, earning him the respect and admiration of his comrades.
Serving three tours in Vietnam , Richard displayed unparalleled bravery and resilience, facing the challenges of combat with unwavering resolve. His experiences in Vietnam not only shaped his character but also reinforced his dedication to protecting the freedoms and values that he held dear.
A celebration of life for Richard will be held Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Grand Prairie Funeral Home, 733 Dalworth Street, Grand Prairie, TX 75050. Following the celebration of life will be a committal service at 3:00 PM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project in Richard's memory.
Richard Thomas will be deeply missed, but his spirit and legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him. His life was a testament to the values of honor, courage, and commitment, and his contributions to his country and community will never be forgotten.
