Chip graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1978 and was a very proud Gopher through and through. He was an athletic trainer for football, basketball and baseball and was a sports writer for the Prairie Dog Newspaper. Chip went on to attend Texas Tech University where he was an athletic trainer for the Red Raiders and was also a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. During high school and college, Chip was a popular teller at Grand Prairie State Bank.
After working in the air freight industry for 25 years, he found a job that he dearly loved- serving as a park ranger for the city of Grand Prairie. He liked working outdoors and talking with campers visiting the park. He enjoyed his work and his co-workers and considered them as his lake family.
To say that Chip was an avid sports buff is an understatement! He was a loyal supporter of the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks and the Texas Rangers. He was also the BIGGEST Texas Longhorn fan in America! Hook ‘Em Horns, Chip!
Chip was a loving son, brother and uncle and was a great friend to many that he loved with all of his heart.
He is preceded in death by his father, Webster Norman Gilbert.
Chip is survived by his mother, Julia Farris Gilbert, sister, Julie Gilbert Groth and her husband Geoffrey C. Groth and their children Trey, Farris and Tripp Groth.
Memorial Service: 2:00 pm, Monday, June 29, 2015 at First United Methodist Church in Grand Prairie.
