

Dr. Allen G. Gerrard, Ph.D., 88, of Grand Rapids, died Saturday, December 4th, 2010. He was born September 21st, 1922 in Ontonogan, MI and was the son of George Comstock & Isabel Avery (Allen) Gerrard. He proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII serving in the Pacific Theater. He enjoyed music, traveling the world, and skiing. Allen received his Ph.D. in foreign language from the University of Michigan. He began his teaching career at Howard City High School. He retired in 1986, from Grand Rapids Junior College after 26 years. Allen was a member of the Casino Club, and American Legion Post #47 in Comstock Park. He is survived by two sons, Bruce and Theodore (Linda) Gerrard; three grandsons, Steven, Christopher, and Philip Gerrard; two granddaughters, Deadre Gerrard, and Abbey (Blake) Elliot; three great-granddaughters, Tiana Fowler, Kaidwin and Alanna Elliot. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Gerrard, in 2001. Funeral Services will be held, Thursday, December 9th, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 1023 Three Mile Road, N.E. with Rev. Michael C. Fedewa, Rector. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be held, Wednesday, December 8th, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church and one hour prior to the service Thursday evening at the church.
