

Charles E. Elwood, age 72 of Grand Rapids, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 18, 2022. Chuck was born on April 27, 1949 to Frank & Beatrice (Feist) Elwood. He was a lifelong resident of Grand Rapids.
Chuck and Pamela (Kujawa) were married on May 30, 1981, at St. Jude Catholic Church. Faith was an important part of Chuck’s life, as he and Pam were members of St. Jude for 40 years.
Chuck’s friendly smile was found for many years as the greeter at Mejier; retiring with over 40 years of dedicated service at the Plainfield location.
Chuck was a dedicated father and grandfather, having been a Boy Scout Leader and merit badge counselor for Troop 406 for many years, even after his son achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and graduated Chuck continued to be supportive and involved with the troop. He spent lots of time with the scouts, helping them earn their merit badges and even going on outings such as a Griffins hockey game with them.
As a grandpa, there was no one better than Chuck. He was the best babysitter, best storyteller, and extremely devoted to his grandson.
Over 4 decades, Chuck spent lots of time with his best buddy, Bob Cook. He and Bob could find enjoyment out of a simple trip to Wal-Mart. They spent lots of time on various outdoorsy projects, like cutting and selling firewood.
Charles and his loving wife Pam celebrated 40 years of marriage on May 30, 2021. Despite being separated by Covid lockdowns, their marriage remained strong and unshaken. They enjoyed their daily phone call chats together. It was a blessing to be able to see him in person on Father’s Day last June after restrictions were lifted. Much of his family’s interaction with with him was restricted to only phone calls and weekly video conference calls during the Recent Covid restrictions for the last 2 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Pam; his children: Corey Elwood and Kate Chandler; his grandson Jesse Chandler; sisters Carol (Rick) Paalman and Colleen McDonald; his father-in-law James Kujawa; his sisters-in-law Jodi (Sid) Saganek, Toni (Art) Barajas, and his brother-in-law Steve Litzan as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law Rita Kujawa and sister-in-law Kim Litzan.
Visitation for Chuck will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church where the family will receive visitors for one hour prior to the service.
Memorial donations in Chuck’s name may be made to the American Heart Association.
