There I was minding my own business when… David Lee Homant passed away peacefully in the early morning of August 1, 2025. As a kid, he spent many summers helping his Aunt Hilda and Uncle Archie on their farm in Byron Center and loved it.
He saved up all of his paper route money and money from other jobs to buy himself a Suzuki 80 motorcycle which gave him the freedom to be adventurous.
He held a variety of jobs throughout his life. But what he loved most was volunteering for the Kent County Search and Rescue. He handpicked his sidekick Gus and trained him to work many missions for 8 years long. Dave and Gus were inseparable and the best of friends; they were known as Team Gus.
David served in the Army in Vietnam and Germany.
He fought for 10 years with pulmonary fibrosis and 5 years with cancer. and won the war as he is now in heaven.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Krystine; his children: Jackie (Mitchell), Ben (Christina) Homant, Dan (Jessica) Homant, Gabby (Austin) Homant-Schimp and Alivia (Zac) Homant; his grandchildren: Ella, Eli, Gavin, Triston, David, Ryan, Finn and Paxton; his siblings: Tony (Deb) Homant, Kathy (Joe) Gahan and Paulette (Buck) Bockheim and his sister-in-law Trish Homant as well as many other relatives.
He has joined his daughter Beth Caldwell, his brother Louie Homant and his parents Ivan and Lucy (Sturm) Homant.
