Dorothy and Donald Morley were both born and raised in Rogers City and attended school together. Don was serving in the Army when they got married on June 14, 1952. They began their family which would grow to include five children, each born in a different state and one in Germany, because of Don’s military assignments.
When the family settled back in Grand Rapids, Dorothy went to work at Interstate Brands working at the bread store on Plainfield retiring after 30 years. When she took time for herself, she enjoyed bowling, dancing, boating and gardening. She found her inner peace being outdoors. She also loved the challenge of jigsaw and word puzzles, and the quiet of a good book. A woman of strong faith, Dorothy was a longtime and active member of St. Jude Catholic Church.
A devoted mother and grandmother, Dorothy with her peaceful spirit instilled a strong work ethic, and love of family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Carrie (Thomas) Pattok, Janice (John) Heikenfeld, Paul (Roxanne) Morley, Kathleen (Scott) McDonald, David Morley; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; her sisters: Pauline (Phil) Henry and Martha (Stan) Smolinski as well as many other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her infant son Larry; her sisters: Sophie (Jack) Socia, Helen (Carroll) Hopp, Ester (Richard) Santino, Mary (Edward) Biernot, Patricia (Leonard) Gabrysiak and her brother Gerald (Maryann) Mulka.
Visitation for Dorothy will held on Tuesday January 24, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church on Wednesday January 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
Memorial donations may be made to Interim Hospice or Alzheimer’s Association.
