Dorothy M. Sponaas

Dorothy Marion Sponaas, was 95 and a lifelong resident of Comstock Park and surrounding areas. She left this world August 12, 2016 at Mercy St. Mary's Hospital. Dorothy was born April 15, 1921 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late Earl and Marion Sturtevant. She was the second born of the children and the last one of her siblings to pass. In 1940 Dorothy was proudly crowned Miss Muskegon. She married John Odman Sponaas on December 15, 1940 and had 4 children Marianne (Larry) Clark, Peggy (Tom) McDonniel, Dorothy (Michael) Robinson and Joni Schramm. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Kelly (Mike) Black, Joe (Maggie) Doorenbos, Jennie (John) Golden, Mindy (Bob) Luker, Missy (Brian) Hinchman, Mike (Stacy) Robinson, Alieca Burns, Christina Mangold, Vanessa Schramm, John Schramm, Lexi Golden, and Great Grandchildren Mike Black, Monica Black, Tj Doorenbos, John Doorenbos, Jacob Golden, Kinsey Golden, Taylor , Breadan O'Malley, Victoria Robinson, Renee Robinson, Cohen Luker, Lauren Luker and Cash Hodges. Dorothy lived to love her family and many friends; she always made you feel welcome. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Please join Dorothy’s family for a time of visitation on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Reyers North Valley Chapel from 1-2:30pm. The memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 beginning at 2:30pm and officiated by Pastor Kevin Sullivan. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice or Saint Mary's Catholic.
