Egbert Peter Waalkes

Egbert Peter Waalkes, aged 93, passed away at home on June 8, 2013 and was reunited with his wife Carol of 60 years. Bert proudly served his country with The United States Army during WWII and was a lifelong member of Oakhill Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his children Kathryn Davis, Richard Waalkes, Holly (Andrew) VerBurg, Julie (Dan) Kent; his grandchildren Michele (Ray) Cotis, Scott (Amy) Davis, Joe Kent, Jacob (Rachael) Kent, Vikki (Chris) Ranger; his great-grandchildren Nathan Cotis, Timothy Ranger, Andrew Davis and Benjamin Kent. Also surviving are his siblings sister Jackie Vos, brother Bill (Hope) Waalkes and sister Arlene (Roger) Van Malsen, and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Spectrum Health Hospice and the girls at ComForcare Senior Services. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Oakhill Presbyterian Church (1930 Leonard St N.E., Grand Rapids, Michigan) with Rev. Jeffrey Carlson officiating. Military Honors under the auspices of The Kent County Veterans Honor Guard will follow the services at church. If you would like to pay your respects to Bert and greet his family for visitation please visit Reyers North Valley Chapel from both 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Tuesday and again at church on Wednesday one hour prior to the service. Interment in Grandville Cemetery. For those who wish, memorials may be made to Oakhill Presbyterian Church.
