Helen Irene MacDonald

In loving memory of Helen Irene MacDonald (Kolderman). Helen passed away peacefully at home, with family by her side, on July 27, 2012, at the age of 91. She was born March 7, 1921 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to parents Johannes and Otillia Kolderman. She attended Creston High School, received the DAR award, and graduated as valedictorian in 1939. She began her career at Michigan Bell Telephone, married John MacDonald in 1948, then spent several years as a homemaker raising her two daughters. She continued her career with Kent County in the business offices of the Register of Deeds and Kent Community Hospital. She is remembered as a warm, loving, and gracious woman who loved her family dearly. Her marriage of 52 years to John displayed a relationship of tender love and commitment until his passing in 2000. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Sandy and Kurt Kindig and Nancy and Chris Bamford. She has five grandchildren: Scott Bamford and wife Amy, Robyn Arndt and husband Nathan, Ian Kindig and fiancée Samantha Angell, Todd Kindig and fiancée Rebecca Walker, and Kevin Kindig. She has seven great-grandchildren: Megan and Seth Bamford; Alexis, Jonathan and Raegan Arndt; and Blake and Logan Kindig. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Viv Kolderman; nieces and nephews Bill and Kathleen MacDonald, Kathy and Michael Peacock, Lynn and Linda Kolderman, Linda and Rom Bailey, Jane and Clay Hexton, Tom and Betsy Kolderman, Joe and Lavonne Kolderman, and Gene and Ruth Gephart. She was preceded in death by husband John; her brother and his wife Roger and Helen Kolderman; brother Joseph Kolderman; sister Bernice and husband Harrod Gephart; brother-in-law Bill and wife Kathryn MacDonald; and niece Mary Helen Johnson. A Memorial Service will be held on at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Second Congregational UCC, 525 Cheshire Dr. N.E. Visitation for one hour prior, from 10-11 a.m. also at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice in memory of Helen.
