Jeane (Blandford) Swart, 95.5 years old, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Born on December 26, 1923 in Grand Rapids Michigan to Isaac R. and Bessie Blandford. She was united in marriage on August 16, 1946, to her husband of more than 70 years, the late Henry “Hank” Swart Jr.
She is survived by her children Betsey Taack, David (Nawal) Swart and Mary Harrison, 8 grandkids and 22 great grandkids and was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Bessie, husband Hank, her sister Betsey Hart and brother Thomas Blandford.
Jeane attended North Park Elementary school and was a 1941 graduate of Creston High School, where she met her husband Hank. After graduating high school, she attended Grand Rapids Junior College in 1941 and then went on to Michigan State University in 1943, graduating in 1945 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Music. She was a life-long member of Chi Omega sorority.
Jeane taught vocal music for 18 years at Wealthy Elementary in East Grand Rapids starting in the mid- 1960’s. She has been a member of Second Congregational UCC since 1952, and a choir member for 64 years. She also belonged to St. Cecilia and was an accompanist for many organizations. She sang in the Grand Rapids Symphonic choir. Jeane’s first love was her family, her church and her music. Her piano was her most valuable possession.
Visitation for Jeane will be Saturday, May 11, 2019, from 9 a.m. until the time of the Funeral at 11 a.m. at Second Congregational Church UCC, 525 Cheshire Drive NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49505. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Second Congregational Church, Music Projects Fund, or to Blandford Nature Center. The song is ended but the melody lingers on.
