Kay was born on June 9, 1938 in St. Johns, Michigan to Dorr and Margaret Anderson. She graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School, St. Johns, MI, with the class of 1956. She continued her education at the University of Michigan and graduated with her nursing degree in 1960. She married Jerold "Jerry" Tiedt on June 25, 1960.
Kay is preceded in death by her father and mother, Dorr and Margaret, her brother, Richard Anderson and her sister, June Anderson.
Kay is survived by her husband, Jerry Tiedt, her brother, Dorr Marshall (Marty) Anderson III, her 3 daughters, Cherie (Laren) Pharr, Jeanine (Jim) Samuelson and Michelle (Randy) Walker. Kay is also survived by her 8 grandchildren- Megan (Tim) Laba, Amanda Pharr, Elizabeth, Eric and Katie Samuelson and Randy, Alyssa and Nicholas Walker.
Jerry and Kay started their life in St. Johns and then moved to Ithaca in 1967 and together they ran Jerry's IGA until 1985. During this time, Kay also developed her interest as an artist. She dedicated much of the rest of her life in that pursuit with art shows and teaching art to others. When they moved to Grand Rapids and embarked on a new stage of their lives, they started a successful new Art Consulting business together until they retired in 2010.
Kay loved to socialize with friends and family and quickly made new friends wherever she went. She was always on the go and involved in everything she could be. Kay loved travel and together, Kay and Jerry traveled as much as they were able to. When they weren't traveling the world and within Michigan, they were very active in their church and spending time with friends and family.
Kay's family would like to thank Faith Hospice for their kind and loving care towards Kay throughout the last weeks of her life.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 21st at 11 AM, Visitation will be an hour prior from 10 AM until 11 AM all at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2727 Five Mile Road NE in Grand Rapids.
Kay's family understands that not everyone will be able to attend the Visitation and Funeral Service during this time of recommended social distancing, therefore, memorial contributions can be made in honor of Kay to Messiah Lutheran Organ Fund, 2727 Five Mile Road NE in Grand Rapids or flowers can be accepted to Reyers North Valley Chapel, 2815 Fuller Ave NE by Friday at 5 PM.
