

Mrs. Leona D. (Paige) Atkinson aged 91 of Comstock Park, MI went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 26, 2012. She was predeceased by her husband Carl F. Atkinson Sr., parents Earl Samuel and Inez Dorothy (Baumgardt) Paige, sisters; Mae Austin, Ethel Vailencourt, brothers Irvin Paige and William Paige. Leona will be lovingly remembered by her children; Thomas E. (Nancy) Atkinson, Carl F. (Dorothy E.) Atkinson Jr, Albert A. (Sally) Atkinson, Karen Sue (Thomas) Pierce, 10 grandchildren, Becky, Angie (Trev) Powers, Ryan (Diane) Atkinson, Mark (Vonda) Atkinson, Timothy (Laura) Atkinson, Kimberly (Dave) Maynard, Trina (Dan) Bassak, Paula (Gary) Whittington, Kerri (Cameron) Scott, Sheila (Eric) Taylor, 20 great-grandchildren, Lacy and Meghan Powers, Aubrey, Hannah, Austin, Andrew, Sarah and Emily Atkinson, Paige and Jenna Whittington, Shea, Quinn, Lindsey and Marshall Maynard, Tara, Andrea, Leah and Trent Scott, Jonathan and Ashley Taylor, sisters Ila J. (John) Reeves, Mary Lou (Lloyd) Bachi, Harriet (Gene) Danowski, brothers Earl S. (Darlene) Paige Jr, Donald (Donna) Paige and many nieces and nephews. Leona graduated from Alden High School in 1938 and married Carl in 1939. They moved to Grand Rapids in their early years and she worked for Sackner Products in Grand Rapids for 25 years when she retired in 1981. Leona was a life-long member of the Fuller Ave Church of the Nazarene. She taught Sunday school, served on many church boards and missionary councils and sang in the choir after her retirement. Church was a special part of her life and she leaves a great Christian heritage to her family. Leona also enjoyed sewing, gardening, doing volunteer work and traveling and sharing with her family. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 2, 2012 at the Reyers North Valley Chapel 2815 Fuller Ave NE with Rev. Dan Hathaway of NE Community Church of the Nazarene officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 5-8 PM and Saturday from 10-11 AM at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to NE Community Church of the Nazarene.
