Maxine Dorothy Wells, age 95, died on June 14, 2015 at Porter Hills Retirement Village while being lovingly cared for by her family, Spectrum Health Hospice and the staff at Porter Hills. She was born on March 19, 1920 to Vernon K. and Daisy (Vellau) Moore. Her father was killed in a balloon ascension accident just before she was born and her mother died when she was just three years old. She was also preceded in death by her siblings; Vernon K. Moore Jr. and Arlene Longfield. She is survived by her nephews; Jack K. Longfield (Joan) of Rockford, MI, Vernon T. Maxine had a long and very interesting life. She took flying lessons, joined the Civil Air patrol, was an accountant, a printer, a ceramics teacher and a leather craft instructor. She was also a very active volunteer giving many hours of service to her family, friends, church and to anyone who needed her. One of her passions was trying to save the Davis Tech High School in Grand Rapids from being closed in 1958. Funeral services will be held at Porter Hills at the meeting house on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 3pm with Chaplain Melody Johnson presiding. Visitation will be one hour before services.
