

Nancy Lynne Ramirez (Miller), age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 25. 2016 after a long illness. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Harriet Miller of Ann Arbor and her younger brother, Charles, who was killed in Vietnam. She is survived by her only daughter, Anna Johnson and her son-in-law, Dr. Thomas D. Johnson along with 4 grandchildren, missionaries in Cambodia. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Chizek of Portage, MI, along with children Thomas L. Chizek (and Renee) of Portage, MI, Stephen C. Chizek of Nashville, TN/Dominican Republic, Christina L. Chizek-Martens (and Dr. Troy) of South Haven, MI. She is also survived by 3 great-nieces and 1 great nephew.
Nancy was born in Jackson, MI to Robert and Harriet Miller. Nancy graduated from Aspen Wall High School near Pittsburgh, PA and gave up the opportunity for a scholarship to become a nuclear physicist to pursue a career in nursing. She studied nursing at Presby Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. After graduation, Nancy followed her family to Ann Arbor where she began her nursing career at the University of Michigan Hospital in the Neurosurgery Department as a surgical nurse. In 1969, Nancy left nursing to pursue a career with Commission on Professional and Hospital Activities, an organization begun by Dr. Virgil N. Slee. She stayed with CPHA through several organization changes until her retirement. After her retirement, Nancy moved to Canadian Lakes where she continued to nurse as a community health provider and finally at Metron of Big Rapids.
Nancy was involved in the Parish nurse program at Zion Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor, and was actively involved in different ministries at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Big Rapids. Due to her illness, she was not able to be as involved at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, though she attended when she could. Nancy loved knitting and crocheting, especially for charity. She loved cooking and collecting recipes.
In accordance with her wishes, Nancy will be cremated and a memorial will be held later.
