Richard Kemp Post

When Dick was just a young child, the Post family relocated to Springfield, Massachusetts where he grew up spending a lot of time on the golf course, following his father who was the greens keeper. Golf would become a lifelong sport playing as often as time allowed.

Following high school graduation, Dick enlisted in the Navy. He spent four years proudly serving our country. Upon his honorable discharge, he enrolled at Grand Rapids Junior College before transfering to the University of Michigan and studied engineering. A job offer came along, and Dick jumped at the opportunity; this big step led to Dick’s career as a sales consultant selling mechanical products.

On July 11, 1953, Dick was united in marriage to the former Marilyn Woodard. They celebrated 55 years before her passing on January 28, 2008.

Besides playing a round of golf, Dick was frequently found giving back to his community. He was a longtime member of Second Congregational Church, and active member of Golden Kiwanis, and volunteered at Shawmut Hills School for over 15 years where he was known as “Grandpa” to the many kids he mentored; and at DeVos Children’s Hospital where he would hold and rock babies to give their parents some rest.

Dick is survived by his daughters: Cristin Post and Susan Post; his grandsons: Nathan Post and Caleb Oliver his granddaughter Brittney (Matt) Bouchard and his great-grandchildren: Leah & Madalyn Bouchard as well as many other relatives. Besides his wife Marilyn, Dick was preceded in death by his son Richard K. Post, Jr.

A Memorial Service for Dick will be held on Saturday February 15, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Second Congregational Church: 525 Cheshire Dr NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. A reception and continued time of visiting will follow the service.
