Richard Alden Powell, Sr.

Richard Alden Powell Sr. was born July 30, 1935 and left those who loved and admired him February 24, 2011 at 11:32 A.M. Rich was married to High School sweetheart Marian Marie Nardin February 25, 1956 at the Rockford Congregational Church. He was Father to Richard Alden Powell Jr, (Wife JaNell), Scott Alan Powell (Deceased) and Diane Lynn Raymond (Husband Dennis). Grandfather to Kevin Powell, Hillary Reed, Jennifer Vece, Ryan Powell, Elisha Powell, Tyler Powell, Great Grand Father to Vincent & Max Powell, Dominic & Ella Vece, Rory Prince, and Brody Miller. Richard was Pre-deceased by his Parents Wendell and Alma Powell, Brother Edward, Joyce Spriegel, and Sister Beth Powell. Richard was honorably discharged after three years service delivering Army intelligence throughout Virginia during the Korean War. After service to his country he worked 31 years at Fisher Body plant, a Division of General Motors on Alpine Ave, later he became a licensed builder, constructing 3 family homes in his lifetime. Richard was an avid lifelong farmer, raising horses and Scottish Galloway cattle. After retirement he assisted his wife in running Powell’s Floral in Rockford for 30 years. Richard was the most honorable of men, and a most trusted, loyal, and caring friend. A more loving husband and father there never was. His sacrifices to help those he loved and those around him can never be truly measured, and our gratitude can never be put into words. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Reyers North Valley Chapel 2815 Fuller Ave NE. Friends and relatives may greet Richards family on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM or on Saturday from 10-11 AM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Meijer Heart Center.
