Dick (Richard Paul) Weidenfeller, age of 77, passed away on March 31, 2022, at home, in New Jersey. He grew up in Grand Rapids, the son of John and Virginia Weidenfeller and the brother of John Weidenfeller Jr and Fritz Weidenfeller, all of whom preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his memory his wife Barbara, his sister Marlene Fabbro, his children; Rick (Tammy), Holly (Jose), and James (Erin), his grandchildren; Khaleb, Zachary, Ashley (Zach), Holden, Jacob (Molly), Joey, and Ella, and his great granddaughter Aspen.
Dick was a graduate of Creston High School and a Coast Guard Serviceman. He followed the footsteps of his father and older brothers into the trade of refrigeration engineering. Over the years, Dick developed many relationships while servicing equipment in West Michigan. He went on to establish his own refrigeration business in New Jersey where he resided for the past 33 years. He was a master in his trade, passing the skills he’d learned from his own father, down to his son and grandson.
As described by his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, Dick was known for his good humor, occasional mischief, and big tales of times gone by. He loved sparring over politics and sharing good meals surrounded by family. He was deeply devoted to his Catholic faith and led by example that all hearts must learn to let go, forgive, and forget.
Dick was a lifelong animal lover and owned more pets than we could count. We are glad he has been reunited with the pets that passed before him. He leaves behind three dogs and three cats.
A time for family and friends to gather will be held on Sunday, May 8, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 am on Monday, May 9, 2022 at St. Andrew’s Cathedral. Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery following Mass.
