Our family’s collective heart was once again rocked with tragedy. Our dear father, Saleh K. Kais–devout husband to his late wife Summer, loving father to his children Dr. Susan and Aimen, and beloved brother to his siblings Raouf, Mehanna, Hassan, Fatat, Fadila, Akram, and Adnan–died suddenly and unexpectedly in his sleep.
He spent a beautiful evening before his death at his brother Hassan’s house with his children by his side, sharing stories and laughs over dinner and dessert, enjoying one of his favorite meals–kusa (stuffed zucchini). With a full heart, we went home and he said goodnight to his children, and went to sleep in good spirits...never to awaken again.
We are completely heartbroken. Our father Saleh was a kind, gentle, jovial, loving, and happy-spirited man who was a jack-of-all-trades. He was a wonderful storyteller and jokester who could always make you laugh and loved the company of others. He was a proud UAW member who spent over 30 years working for General Motors beside his brother Hassan. His love for family was rivaled only by his love for gardening and home improvement projects—no task was too big or too small. His positive energy and infectious smile were loved by all. We are grateful that he passed quietly in his sleep without any sign of suffering. May he rest in eternal peace.
Dad, thank you for being the best father we could ask for with your unconditional love, brilliant mind, optimistic outlook on life, and your unwavering belief in us. You epitomize the American dream. Thank you for being such a warm, kind, generous father, brother, son, uncle, and friend to all who had the honor of knowing you. You touched more lives than you could ever know—from the mountains of Lebanon to your adopted home in America—and we will miss you more than you could possibly imagine. Please give Mom a big hug and kiss from all of us. Until we meet again....
