Walter F. Morris, age 92 passed away following a brief illness on July 19, 2025. Walt's final days were filled with quality time with family and visits from friends. Walt was born on August 2, 1932 to George and Agnes (Svoboda) Morris.
After leaving school, Walt joined the Air Force and served his country from 1950 until 1955. Soon after his discharge, he was back in Grand Rapids where he met a young gal named Mary Krezelewski. He was quite smitten with her, and she easily fell for him. The happy couple were united in marriage on September 28, 1957 and were getting ready to celebrate 68 years of wedded bliss.
Walt spent his career working for Lear Aeronautics, now known as Smith Industries. He was a lab technician for 35 years before he retired.
Being outside working in his gardens, hiking the woods or enjoying the beauty of a waterfall, Walt’s passion was being in nature. He loved traveling up north in the UP, naming Cooper Harbor and the Black River area as two of his favorite places. If there was a waterfall to be seen, Walt would trek the forest to sit and find peace in its beauty. He enjoyed hotrods, having several of his own over the years. Every year he looked forward to attending the St. Ignace Car Show.
The family man who was everyone’s friend who was naturally gentle and loving will be missed for his wonderful sense of humor, his positive spirit and leading by example through his faith and strong work-ethic.
Walt is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary; his children Laurie (Rick) Timmer and Gary (Janeen) Morris; his grandchildren: Ezekiel (Teran) Timmer, Zane Timmer and Keaton Morris; his great-granddaughter Wrenley Timmer; his sister Phyllis Blik and many other family and friends. Besides his parents, Walt was preceded in death by his 2 year old son Lawrence Gene Morris and his sister Beverly Visser.
Visitation for Walter will be held on Friday August 1, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel where on Saturday August 2, 2025 (on what would be Walt’s 93rd birthday), a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Private interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
