Carl was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Herman and Stanley, sister Wilma and son Larry S Phillips.
Carl was a devoted husband to Mary for 75 years, loving father and proud grandpa and great grandpa. He spent the majority of his adult life using his skills as a master carpenter here in the metro area. He was self-employed for much of his career and worked at his craft into his 80s. He proudly served in the US Army in the later part of WW2 in France and then later was stationed in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged from the Army holding a rank of Technician Fourth Grade.
Carl loved working in any capacity with wood. He started as a rough-in carpenter in the 1960s, later moved into cabinetry-setting cabinets in many homes throughout the area and then became self-employed and worked in both residential and commercial jobs. He made furniture, toys for grandchildren, patio decks and in his leisure time did hand woodcarving; making many carved figures. If it involved wood, he had tried his hand at it. His other hobbies included gardening, photography (he built his own darkroom) and was an avid daily reader of The Kansas City Star since the 1960s.
Carl and Mary enjoyed 60+ years in their home in Grandview. They enjoyed many years of square dancing as members of several square dance clubs in the KC area. They traveled the nation in their two RV motor homes and were snowbirds in Yuma, AZ, during the winter for many years.
Carl will be dearly missed by family and friends; most who have something in their homes that Carl crafted for them.
