Carolyn R. Williamson, 44, died Tuesday, January 30, 2024, surrounded by her entire family at Life Care Center of Grandview in Grandview, Missouri. She was born December 13, 1979, in Webster, Texas, the fifth of six children born to Joel T. and Mona C. (Hoskins) Williamson.
At six months of age, medical teams in Houston, Texas, discovered a large and malignant tumor in her brain and predicted that Carolyn would not live to see her first birthday. By God’s grace, however, radiation therapy shrank the tumor and the cancer never reappeared. While it did not reappear, the cancer did leave behind life-long mental and physical limitations. Most notably, she experienced seizures that neither medication nor surgeries could eliminate.
For most of her life, Carolyn lived at home with her parents and siblings and attended Trails West State School for the Severely Handicapped. After her siblings left the home to pursue their own lives, her parents reluctantly moved her into a nursing home. Although unable to communicate with words, she did seem to understand and enjoy most of what was going on around her. She especially enjoyed her church and its music.
Carolyn was predeceased by an older brother, Jonathan Williamson. She is survived by her parents Joel and Mona Williamson of Belton, Missouri; by her siblings Jomona Williamson of Columbia, South Carolina; Clarissa O’Dwyer and her husband Andrew, of Belton, Missouri; Joel Williamson III and his wife Alegria of Carrollton, Georgia; and Rachel Howard and her husband Daniel of Sugar Grove, Illinois; as well as by twelve nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9, and a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10. Both will occur at Blue River Bible Church, 15608 Fairchild Dr., Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Blue River Bible Church or Calvary University, 15800 Calvary Road, Kansas City, MO 64147. The family also wishes to gratefully acknowledge the generous help of the staff of Novus LifeCare in providing hospice care during Carolyn’s final days.
