Charles Leon Foland, 81, of Belton, Missouri, passed away on Monday, November 16, 2020, at the Life Care Center in Grandview, Missouri after suffering a stroke. Private family services will be held with burial in Belton Cemetery.
Charlie was born on July 3, 1939, in La Junta, Colorado, to Leonard Foland and Marie Foland Pratchard. He graduated in 1958 from Manual High School in Kansas City, Missouri, and completed union glazier and glassworker apprenticeships in 1965. He worked in the glass and glazing trade for 17 years before becoming Business Manager for the Glaziers Union Local 558 in Kansas City, MO.
In 1990 he became Director of the National Glaziers Apprenticeship and Training Fund at the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades in Washington, DC. He retired from the IUPAT in 2005. Charles was a dedicated union member for 61 years. He was a proud member of the Cherokee Nation and enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and woodworking.
Charlie was united in marriage to Janet Mae Ballard in Kansas City, Missouri on June 29, 1957. They were blessed with 63 years of marriage and had three children, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Jan; daughter Deborah Martin; son Dennis Foland and wife Laura; daughter Kristi Anderson and husband Todd; six grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
