

Donald James Sheets was born on July 23, 1932 in Des Moines, Iowa, the middle child of Cary Cassius Sheets and Opal Valentine (Buck) Sheets. At the age of 14 Donald gave his life to Jesus and was baptized at a tent revival in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. He was a lifelong Baptist. Donald graduated high school in 1951 from East High School in Des Moines and he started working at Meredith Printing (Meredith/Burda, RR Donnelley) retiring in 1992.
In 1952 he volunteered to serve our country in the Air Force. He served a year in Korea and left active duty May 26, 1956, but continued 4 more years in the inactive reserves. In 1972 he re-enlisted in the Iowa Air National Guard in Des Moines as a Civil Engineer. He served till 1983. Donald was a member of the East Gate Masonic Lodge in Des Moines, Iowa, before transferring to the Adel Masonic Lodge, Adel, Iowa, In early 1970's. He was also a lifetime VFW member. On May 27, 1956, Donald married Beverly (Slater) in Lucas, Kansas. They became Parents to three Children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sibling:, Griffith, Marvin, Duane, Margaret and half sibling Paul Wycoff, daughter: Donna, great granddaughter: Faith and two Great-great grandchildren: Aurora and Kristopher.
Donald is survived by his wife of 70 years Beverly , Children, son, Michael (Suzie) Sheets and daughter Ruth (Dennis) Blanchard. 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 8 great great-grandchildren.
Per Donald's request there will be no visitation. A memorial graveside service will be at Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, Missouri with military honors at a later date.
