The family will greet visitors on Tuesday, March 12, from 6 - 8 p.m., at the church with the Rosary at 8:00.
Kenneth was born in St. Clair County, Missouri, on July 22, 1924. He was preceded in death by his much-loved parents, Ellsworth (Elmer) and Elizabeth Ann Lyon; his brothers Fred, Melvin, Samuel and Richard; and, sister, Lulu. He and his surviving sister, Mildred Lyon Wattson, shared fond memories of their growing up years in Osceola.
A true member of the greatest generation, Kenneth declined a basketball scholarship to serve his country in the U.S. Navy, during World War II. He was proud of his service aboard the U.S.S. Carina, in the Pacific Theater. As a brother-in-arms, he enjoyed naval ship reunions throughout his life. In civilian life, Kenneth worked and retired from Ironworkers Local #10.
Among his cherished vocations, Kenneth was first a husband. He married Charlene Ann Lowe, in 1948. In their 65 years together, they were dedicated to and proud of their seven children and their spouses: Elizabeth and Harvey Haynes; Larry Lyon; Susie and Larry Young; Nancy and Mark Stephan; Rebecca and James Summers; Jeannie Tadokoro; and, Jeff and Lynette Lyon. "Pa-pa" loved and was loved by his 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The bonds of family kept a special place in his heart for Kathy Lyon Wittman and Jeff Tadokoro. Kenneth always regarded his family as his greatest treasure and accomplishment. Gardening, sports and the great outdoors were favored pastimes.
Kenneth was a founding member of Coronation Parish, a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, and a man of deep faith.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gerald Mancuso, the staff of St. Joseph Medical Center, and Catholic Community Hospice for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to Coronation of Our Lady Parish or Catholic Community Hospice, 9720 West 87th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66212.
