

died on February 10, 2015. He was born June 11,
1932 in Amarillo, Texas. He served four years
in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, then
on July 29, 1955 Mel married Helen Joy
Underwood, also of Amarillo.
In 1960-1961, Mel operated the Buick/Pontiac
franchise in Dumas, TX with 50% ownership.
After serving Ford Motor Credit for 30 years
in Lubbock, then Supervisor in Dallas, District
Manager in New Orleans; F&I Training Director
in Dearborn, MI; and lastly, as National Dealer
Reinsurance Manager, Mel retired with his wife
to Hot Springs Village, AR where he served
three terms on the Saline County Quorum as
District 13 Justice-of-the-Peace,
In 1997 he was elected as chairman of the
Republican Party in Saline County. Under his
leadership the county GOP set a new record
for fund drives in 1998.
He was an ordained deacon and over
the years he served various Baptist churches
as Training Director, Sunday School Director,
Director of Music and teacher of various ages
and groups.
In 1999 Mel and his wife moved to Crystal
Lake, IL to be closer to their family. In
early 2012 they moved to Lee’s Summit, MO
when his son-in-law became vice president of
finance at John Knox Village.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda
and her husband, Richard Kim Klockenga,
of Lee’s Summit, with grandsons, Christopher
and Daniel, along with Kim’s sons Nicholas
and Matthew, his wife, Ashley, and their
daughter, Anna Grace (Gracie) Klockenga;
and a sister, Dolores Belcher, of Amarillo, TX.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gary
Garth Ingram; his wife, Helen; parents, Garth
and Hazel; and his sisters, Collene Carpenter
and Ginger LaDeane Riddle.
