

Ronald (Ron) Davis Hickman, Sr., age 85, launched his final flight into the wild blue yonder on May 14, 2026 at home surrounded by loving family. Born in Malvern, Iowa, Ron was the son of the late Clarence E. Hickman and Bonnie I. Holden (Hickman) (Schwartz).
Ron attended school in Shenandoah, Iowa and then served in the United States Air Force for 8 years during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Okinawa, England, and US bases. After serving our country, Ron moved back to Shenandoah and was employed to provide for his children, Lori and Ron, Jr and then wife Judi. Ron was divorced in 1983 and in 1985 married Susan (Sue) Hutchison (Ashenfelter). After earning his Associates Degree in Electronics Technology, in Omaha, Nebraska, Ron and Sue moved to Grandview, Mo for Ron to attend DeVry University in Kansas City, MO. Ron graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Engineering. He worked in this industry for several years before going back to school to obtain his degree in Biomed Technology. Ron became employed at St. Joseph Medical Center (Hospital) in KC, MO as a Biomed Technician for 11 years and retired in 2003.
Ron’s hobbies included woodworking, stained glass, painting, building and flying remote control airplanes, home remodeling, fishing, hunting, golf, gardening, motorcycles and his love for English Bulldogs. His fine craftsmanship was evident in everything his hands touched. In his later years, Ron enjoyed simple things like being with family, watching westerns and drinking his favorite root beer. Ron is a member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Ron is survived by his wife of 41 years, Susan (Sue), step-children Carissa Johnson (Jeremy), Lee Hutchison (Cindey), Son-in-law Bruce Bain, Grandchildren Bradley Bain, (Jadrian), Brett Bain, Dominic Grissell (US Air Force), Michael Grissell (Karlee), Janae Grissell, Lauren Herrera (Brandon), Mason Hutchison, Kaitlyn Hutchison, brothers Dick Hickman (Marcy of Sacramento, CA), Sam (Mary of Sparks, NV), his sisters Faye Hankins (Dave of Ozark, MO), Jan Holden (North Kansas City, MO) and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Ron was predeceased by his parents Clarence and Bonnie, children, Lori S. Bain (Hickman) and Ronald D. Hickman, Jr (Fella), his sisters Joan Christianson (Hickman) and sister Joyce Meyers (Hickman).
