Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Betty, and his parents John and Anna Schepers, with whom he now rests in the presence of the Lord he faithfully served.
A man of deep Christian faith, Jerry was a longtime devoted member of Grace Bible Church, where his love for God and others was evident to all who knew him. He carried that same spirit of service into his volunteering with Wycliffe Ministries and JAARS. A veteran of the United States Army, he served his country with the same quiet dedication he brought to everything in life. He spent his working years as a truck driver for Spartan Stores, logging many miles on the road.
Jerry found joy in the simple pleasures — a hot cup of coffee and a donut to start the day, the sound of country music, and the open road. His happiest travels were spent wintering in Florida in his fifth-wheel.
He is survived by his five children and their spouses: Gary (Barb) Schepers, Wayne (Cyndie) Schepers, Rick (Gina) Schepers, Melody (Jerry) VanStrien, and Steve (Kelly) Schepers; 11 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. His legacy of faith, love, and service lives on through each of them.
He will be deeply missed and long remembered by all who knew him.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will commence 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2026, with visitation one hour prior, at Grace Bible Church, 3715 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. Pastor Todd Kinde will be officiating. Interment will be at Georgetown Cemetery, family only. In honor of Jerry and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Grace Bible Church missions fund in support of the Schmied family. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their guestbook online.
