Angel Joseph Sansoterra (“AJ”), age 24, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 16, 2025. AJ was preceded in death by his grandfathers Wayne DeGlopper and David L. Sansoterra. He will be remembered by his parents Kimberly and Michael Sansoterra; siblings Rebecca Fogle (Ryan), Lydia, Laura, and Melany; grandmothers Jeanne DeGlopper, Sharon Sansoterra, and Nancy Sansoterra; girlfriend, Scarlett Henley; and a stellar host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
AJ was adopted from Guatemala in July 2007. He attended Grandville Public Schools and worshiped at Grand Rapids Baptist Church. He loved sports and played many, including softball, pickleball, and track, but his all-time favorite was soccer, which he played from elementary through high school.
He had a unique magnetism and charm that endeared him to many. This was evident by seeing him walk into a group of people followed by an electric "Hey AJ!" His friendliness, encouraging spirit, hard work, and crazy antics will be deeply missed by his family.
He served his country proudly as a US Marine (Infantry) for four years. There he made many friends and encountered life's challenges, sorrows, and triumphs.
Shortly after he left the military, he was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer. Given the severity of the disease, the family is incredibly grateful for the care he received from the U of M Health West Cancer Center and the extra time it gave us to enjoy him! We look forward to reuniting with him in the Lord! (2nd Corinthians 5:8)
A celebration of AJ’s life will commence 11 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2025, with visitation one hour prior to the service, at New Life Baptist Church, 840 Wilson Ave NW, Walker, Michigan 49534. In honor of AJ and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Operation Heal Our Patriots, a ministry of Samaritan's Purse.
The family welcomes memories and messages which can be posted at www.cookcaresgrandville.com in their online guest book.
