Arlene Y. Mendels, age 85, sadly took her final journey on Monday, March 20, 2023. She will be remembered as a strong-willed woman and a loving mother and grandmother. Arlene was born in Providence, RI, and grew up in Springfield, MA until she and her mother moved to Grand Rapids, MI around 1954. She had a strong love for classical music, playing the piano, and she enjoyed singing in the LaGrave Ave. Christian Reformed Church choir. In August 1967, Arlene graduated with her Bachelor of Arts from Calvin College and Seminary in Grand Rapids, MI. Her favorite flowers were red roses and she loved to indulge in chocolate covered strawberries and fresh baked muffins. Arlene also loved visiting the beach, watching sunsets, sipping wine, watching mystery TV, crocheting, and traveling. Some of her favorite places visited in her lifetime included Italy, France, Switzerland, Austria, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Hawaii, Alaska, and the Yucatan in Mexico. The love for travel was definitely passed on to both of her daughters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene R. Mendels and her mother, Claire Munson. She will always be remembered and lovingly missed by her children Dori Beuker, Beth Casler; grandchildren Zachary Beuker, Jacob Beuker, Nicholas Casler, Miranda Harkins; as well as her extended family and friends.
