Christopher J. Norman, age 46, went to be with his Lord, Sunday, March 26, 2017 after an eight-year battle with Mesothelioma.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Nate Norman and father-in-law, Marvin Wynalda.
Chris will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 25 years, Sherry Norman (Wynalda); his daughters, Alison Vroegop (husband Caleb) , Kelsey Norman, Amanda Norman; his parents, Sid and Jan Norman; his mother-in-law, Sue Wynalda; his siblings, Sheri and Rob Hielkema, Vic and Susan Norman; Sherry’s siblings, Brad and Kim Wynalda, Karen and Kevin Gabrielse; and many nieces and nephews.
Chris grew up in Japan and Guam, where his parents were missionaries. He and Sherry met at South Christian High School. They went on to graduate from Calvin College and then earned their Masters’ Degrees from the University of Michigan. Chris worked as a mechanical engineer and then in product development for Steelcase for over 20 years. He enjoyed many hobbies like golf, hunting and fishing, family vacations, and watching U of M Football. Goofy humor, sarcasm, and puns were Chris’ love language. Chris loved his Lord and wanted everyone to be sincere believers. Every morning he could be found with his cat, his coffee and his devotions. Through the challenges of his illness, Chris has used the testimony of his faith to reach out to those around him.
A time for relatives and friends to visit with Chris’ family will be held from 4 to 7 PM Tuesday, 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at Cook Funeral Home in Byron Center, 2067 – 84th St. SW. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday, March 30, at Heritage Christian Reformed Church, 3089 – 84th St. SW. Rev. James Boer and Rev. Robert Bolt will officiate.
