Daniel Anthony Navarro, age 88, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Navarro; son, Kenneth Groenink; and parents Miguel and Alicia Navarro. He will be remembered by his children Linda (Rod) Berkompas, Mary (Jeff) Bredeweg, Annette (Amy) Groenink, and Bob (Kim) Navarro; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and 11 siblings; very special friends of many years Rico (Fanny) Garcia and Isa Devos; many nieces, nephews, and countless other friends.
In 1957, Dan and his brother Miguel opened the Alma Latina Restaurant in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He purchased his brother's share and ran the very successful business for 48 years until he retired in 2005. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing the bounty of his vegetable garden with everyone. If you could not find him in his garden, he could be found at the round table of El Matador Tortilla Factory sharing stories with family and friends or spending time entertaining his grandchildren. His humble upbringing was shown through his open generosity to always help others in need with however he could.
A celebration of Dan’s life will take place at 12 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2021 at Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie SW, Grandville, MI 49418.
