Donald F. Schwartz

Don was preceded in death by his first wife Rita Steffes Schwartz; his parents Anton and Anna Schwartz; his brother Lester Helen Schwartz, his sisters Betty Alfred Heibel, Angie Walt Rybiski, and Helen Cooper.

Don is lovingly remembered by his wife Maxine Holzgen Stein Schwartz; his children Bob Dawn Schwartz, Diane Ken Genther, Betty Jim Gill, Dorothy Bob Van Wagner, Jim Karen Schwartz, Mike Chris Schwartz, Dave Brenda Schwartz; his step-children Sue Brent Sebright, Debra Mike Nardin, Gary Jeanne Stein, Dale Kathie Stein, Mary Paul Wiersma, Adam Kris Stein; his 20 grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 4 step-great grandchildren; his sister Lucille Heibel; brothers-in-law Bernard Cooper, Clarence Adeline Steffes; his sisters-in-law Julianna Gaca, Terese Steffes, June Budnick, Donna Holzgen; and his many nieces and nephews.

Don retired from Alloytek after 42 years. He served in the military and fought in World War II. He was a member of the Kent County Honor Guard for 17 years. He was a Life Member of the VFW Post 7540 - North Dorr. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4036. He was a member of the American Legion and he volunteered for the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. He owned and operated the North Dorr General Store from 1963 to 1976. Don was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Visitation Catholic Church, and also a member of the Holy Name Society.

A time for relatives and friends to meet with Don’s family will be held from 7-9 p.m. Sunday and 2-4 & 7-8:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary service, Monday at the Cook Funeral Home, in Byron Center, 2067 84th St. SW.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Mary’s Visitation Catholic Church, 2459 146th Ave. Monsignor Michael Hazard will be officiating the service. Interment will follow at Visitation Cemetery, North Dorr. In honor of Don, contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or St. Mary’s Visitation Education Fund.
