He was preceded in death by his siblings and their spouses Kenneth and Hermina, Lester and Marilyn Oosterbaan, and Angeline and Wes VanderArk.
George is survived by his dear wife of 64 years, Marjorie; and their children Beth and Mark Noel, David, Mark, and Tom and Wendy Oosterbaan; grandchildren Brian and Katherine Noel, Katelyn and Corey Seguin, and Stephanie and Emily Oosterbaan; great-grandchildren Rylee, Zoey, and Landon Seguin; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
George was born and raised in Ellsworth, Michigan, where he attended a one-room school and worked on his family’s farm. George proudly served his country during WWII as a gunner and helmsman on an LST ship. After the war, he moved to Grand Rapids, MI and worked for nearly 30 years at Blackmer. George was a member of Garfield Park Reformed Church for more than 25 years where he served his Lord in many ways and made lifelong friendships. After retirement, George and Marge enjoyed traveling and spending their winters in Florida. George was a generous and loving caregiver for Marge for many years as they met the challenges of her Alzheimer’s Disease. He will be lovingly remembered for his attentive and compassionate care for Marge, his desire to help everyone he encountered to smile or maybe even laugh, and for his strong Christian faith.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sunset communities - especially Audra and other friends on the dining room team - for their generous and thoughtful kindness. Thank you, also, to the staff of Hospice of Holland - especially Nurse Angie.
A Memorial Service for George will be held at a later date.
In honor of George, please consider making a contribution to the Sunset Legacy Foundation.
The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcares.com.
