WISNER - George Maxwell Wisner, age 90, went to be with the Lord on November 16, 2017. George passed away, surrounded by loved ones, at his home in Hudsonville, Michigan, where he spent his final days.
At his request, no service will be held at this time. A memorial celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date to be determined by the family.
George, or "Max" as he was known by all close to him, was born to Oscar and Iva Wisner, on February 22, 1927, in Middleville, Michigan, on the family farm. Max was a devoted Christian and loving family man who reveled in time spent with those he cherished. He loved to travel and hunt, and he was never far from a book or a good football game.
Max served honorably from 1945 to 1946 in the United States Army as an Infantryman during World War II. After his time in the service, Max returned to Michigan to pursue higher education, attending Western Michigan University and going on to obtain a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Michigan. As a career educator, Max dedicated his life to the development of young minds. A loyal “Michigander,” Max taught at Caledonia and Wyoming Park High Schools where he also coached basketball, football, and track. He finished his career as the Principal at Cedar Springs High School while also serving as the Athletic Director for Wyoming Public Schools.
George Maxwell Wisner was preceded in death by his first wife, Adrianne (Wallace) Wisner, daughter, Lynne Marie (Beals) Wisner, and brothers Keith Wisner and Ted O. Wisner. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Lois (Streling) Wisner; children Craig and wife Jerri Wisner, Kyle Wisner, and Scott and wife Deb Wisner, Vern Streling, Sheryl and Steve Start, Karen and Bruce Dykstra, and Chris and Trina Streling; 19 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Max will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
In honor of Max and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Breast Cancer Foundation.
